#96 - Notes on Newsletters, Dessert and Creators
Education Coffee is a 2xWeekly Newsletter on People, Ideas and Culture.
In each edition of this newsletter, I will share some inspiring web resources that I have curated after hours of research to ensure that you have the best education coffee in your inbox. In upcoming editions, I will focus on sharing insights, notes and realizations that I gather from people, ideas, books, films and podcasts. Please subscribe to this newsletter if you enjoyed reading this edition. This month I have taken up a #30DaySubstackChallenge. I want to challenge myself to write a newsletter everyday for the next thirty days. I have really enjoyed writing this newsletter and this is a way for me to build my skill set as a newsletter writer. I will go back to writing a 2xWeekly Newsletter in January 2025.
1. Learning from People
On Episode 40 of #LearningStories, we chat with Salil Bajaj about bootstrapping a small business in India from scratch. Salil is an Entrepreneur, Engineer and Writer based in Gurgaon, India. He has over three years of experience in the entrepreneurial world. He previously built a hiring company that achieved a revenue of approximately INR 2 crore within 1/1.5 years, securing deals with notable brands such as Swiggy, Jupiter, Lenskart, and Giant Eagle. Currently, he is focused on becoming a creator, runs Badaam Lessons as growth newsletter and building a newsletter company, Epithymia Labs on the side. You can find him on Linkedin, Twitter and Substack.
2. Learning from Ideas and Questions
3. Learning from Books, Websites and Blogs
I created a list of my favourite Substack articles. Here is one article from that list about the creator economy and the opportunities it provides all of us to share our stories and experiences on the Internet. It was written on the India Uncut Substack by Amit Varma.
4. Learning from Films, Videos and Shows
My favourite film of the year was, A Fly on the Wall by Shonali Bose and Nilesh Maniyar. This was a touching story of friendship and assisted suicide. It is a film about a sensitive topic. Chika Kapadia is diagnosed with terminal cancer and decides to work with Dignitas to end his life through assisted suicide. This is a film about friendship, life and death. Shonali films his final days and interviews him about his journey and decision to end his life. She shares her perspective on his decision and breaks down several times as Chika is a close friend.
There was Q&A with Shonali Bose (director), Tushar Jagale (editor) and Nilesh Maniyar (director) after the film. Tushar said that the rough unframed shots were what made it special and intimate. Nilesh said that Chika was someone that always followed up on what he said he would do. A brilliant film about human relationships and what really matters at the end of your life. I saw this at the Mumbai Film Festival.
5. Learning from Podcasts and Music
Raghu Dixit talks about how music brought him joy and how he used relentless curiosity to discover his voice as a musician. He got his masters in microbiology and then started creating music in the evenings after work.
