#97 - Notes on Accidents, Bookclubs and Clouds
Education Coffee is a Newsletter on People, Ideas and Culture.
In each edition of this newsletter, I will share some inspiring web resources that I have curated after hours of research to ensure that you have the best education coffee in your inbox. In upcoming editions, I will focus on sharing insights, notes and realizations that I gather from people, ideas, books, films and podcasts. This month I have taken up a #30DaySubstackChallenge. I want to challenge myself to write a newsletter everyday for the next thirty days. I have really enjoyed writing this newsletter and this is a way for me to build my skill set as a newsletter writer. I will go back to writing a 2xWeekly Newsletter in January 2025.
1. Learning from People
On Episode 41 of #LearningStories, we chat with Jaikishaan Sharma about how an accident changed his life. Jaikishaan is an entrepreneur, digital marketer and mindset coach. He moved to Australia in 2007 and completed a Business Degree from the University of Ballarat. He then acquired 8 years of experience in sales and marketing and became the CEO of a successful Direct Sales Agency in Australia. But in 2015, Jaikishaan hit rock-bottom when he got into an accident and was bound to the wheelchair. With the support of his family he recovered from the accident and then founded Sharmatricks, Dream Chair Club and J’YUG Australia. He is here to share his story and you can find him on Linkedin and Youtube as well.
2. Learning from Ideas and Questions
This is a really interesting article on Substack called, The Secret Lives of Hair by Pallavi Aiyar. She write about the global wig trade. She shares statistics on how certain countries dominate the trade or value wigs more because of certain cultural rituals.
3. Learning from Books, Websites and Blogs
I love discussing books with friends and strangers. A Book Club is a group of engaged readers that meet up periodically to discuss and share thoughts on books on a weekly or monthly basis. It is a great way to build community around your love for books in your neighbourhood or community.
4. Learning from Films, Videos and Shows
I am a big fan of wildlife documentaries and videos. I think it helps raise awareness on their ecosystem and ways human can protect their lifestyle in the wild. This is such a precious video of one of a group of Wild Elephants taking a nap as they make their journey across a forest in China
You can follow that up with this other video of Baby turtles making their first journey to the ocean.
5. Learning from Podcasts and Music
Here is song in my head this week. It is called, Head in the Clouds. It is a soothing melody by Hayd. He is Michigan-born singer/songwriter and favors piano-based pop with heartfelt, introspective lyrics. Here are my favourite lyrics from the song:
We had our head in the clouds
Thought we had it all figured out
Planning to fly away
To escape everything on the ground
But like a plane up in space
We slowly drifted away
And every plan that we made
And dream that we chased
Are just memories now
They're just memories now
