#90 - Notes on Sheeran, Conservation and History
Education Coffee is a Newsletter on People, Ideas and Culture.
In each edition of this newsletter, I will share five inspiring web resources that I have curated after hours of research to ensure that you have the best education coffee in your inbox. In upcoming editions, I will focus on sharing insights, notes and realizations that I gather from people, ideas, books, films and podcasts.
1. Learning from People
On Episode 38 of #LearningStories we chat with Agraj Rathi. He is an Adventurer, Conservationist, and Science Writer.
He traded the corporate grind for a life of adventure, swapping spreadsheets for survival skills and boardrooms for breathtaking landscapes. He grew up in Bengaluru and is now based in Vancouver. He completed a 4 year Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Western University and then spent 5 years working in the Corporate Sector. However he always had a passion for Nature and decided to transition to a career in Conservation. He is currently pursuing a two-year technical program from British Columbia Institute of Technology that prepares graduates for fieldwork in conservation and resource management, focusing on outdoor skills and knowledge. Currently based on Canada’s west coast, Agraj is getting lost in conservation biology, blending his love for nature with his passion for storytelling. Through his blog, "The Pathfinder’s Diary," he shares stories of self-discovery, environmental insights, and the scientific wonders of our planet, inspiring others to embrace their wild side and reconnect with the natural world. You can follow him on Medium and Linkedin.
2. Learning from Ideas and Questions
3. Learning from Books, Websites and Blogs
The Sassoon Dynasty by Aditi Taswala is a Substack article on a refugee family that settled in Bombay, earned billions from the Opium Wars, only to throw away their fortune and now their name is just a footnote in history). I have archived this article in my list of my favourite Substack articles.
4. Learning from Films, Videos and Shows
I love Ed Sheeran’s music and this is a 4 part documentary about his journey. There are clips about losing his best friend, his wife’s cancer diagnosis, the music tour business and how he writes music. His albums are called +, -, % and x and that is why this series is called The Sum Of It All.
5. Learning from Podcasts and Music
I love live music concerts and am constantly on the lookout for concerts of my favourite musicians. Concerts are a great way to collect a great experience that you will remember for a lifetime. It is a small investment for a lifelong memory. I have attended live concerts by bands like Imagine Dragons, Maroon 5, The Lumineers, Indian Ocean and more. I have not attended an Ed Sheeran concert yet but it seems like a really fun experience. I also curate videos of my favourite music concerts and live performances on this Youtube playlist. Here is a video of the Mathematics tour he completed in 2022 that he posted on his Youtube Channel.
