#77 - Notes on Games, Adaptations and Lists
Education Coffee is a Newsletter on People, Ideas and Culture.
In each edition of this newsletter, I will share some inspiring web resources that I have curated after hours of research to ensure that you have the best education coffee in your inbox. In upcoming editions, I will focus on sharing insights, notes and realizations that I gather from people, ideas, books, films and podcasts. This month I have taken up a #30DaySubstackChallenge. I want to challenge myself to write a newsletter everyday for the next thirty days. I have really enjoyed writing this newsletter and this is a way for me to build my skill set as a newsletter writer. I will go back to writing a 2xWeekly Newsletter in January 2025.
1. Learning from People
Zain Memon is a game designer and entrepreneur based in Goa, India. He is the co-founder of Memesys Culture Lab, a studio that works on films, board games, and virtual reality. He talks about how games can be a natural learning system in the video below. He shares ideas on how games can simulate problems we face in the real world and can be a great way to engage with younger students and adults.
Zain created the game SHASN which is a multiplayer political strategy board game created by Zain Memon, and published by Memesys Culture Lab, where each player takes on the role of a politician contesting elections and is required to take a stand on various political and ethical issues. Here is a short video by Zain on how to play the game.
2. Learning from Ideas and Questions
I love lists. Whenever I meet someone I often wonder what books, podcasts, films, videos and websites they loved and would recommend. That is why I created a set of my lists. I want to get these conversations started and was inspired by some of these lists I came across on the internet.
3. Learning from Books, Websites and Blogs
In this video, Anushka (a book tuber) talks about books that have been adapted to films or shows and shares her thoughts on each adaptation.
4. Learning from Films, Videos and Shows
Here is my reaction to the recent Whatsapp Advertisement about a young man moving to a new city to start a job as a chef. #ADTalk is a Youtube series where I share my reaction to popular Indian advertisements. In each episode of this series I will share my reaction to an AD by talking about the 3 S's which are: Story being told (connection to a human story or need); Service being provided (product or service details); Strategy adopted (audio, video, branding, setting)
5. Learning from Podcasts and Music
This song just makes me happy. It is about making your flaws your strengths and finding your space and community in the world. I often listen to this song when I am feeling a bit low.
