#145 - Notes on Singapore, Writing and Fast Bowling

In this newsletter, I share five inspiring web resources that I have curated after hours of research to ensure that you have the best education coffee in your inbox. In upcoming editions, I will focus on sharing insights, notes and realizations that I gather from people, ideas, books, films and podcasts.
1. Learning from People
On Episode 63 of #LearningStories we chat with Shilpi J. Chawla about her journey as an author and writer in India. Shilpi's body of work comprises of non fiction books in the self help and parenting genres. She has also released sets of well being oriented deck of cards inspired by her travels. He strength lies in listening to people's journeys, picking up cues and helping them make better sense of it. S
She has been exploring healing modalities like Reiki, Hypnosis, EFT, Vipassana, Art of Living, Angel Therapy and Buddhism. She is inspired by the teachings of Joe Dispenza and Louise H. Hay. Through 'Well Being Whispers', she wants to help people discover their truths through published products, workshops and a supportive community. You can find her on Instagram and Amazon. In this conversation we talk about what inspired her to be become an author and how personal experiences and insights found a space in her book.
2. Learning from Ideas and Questions
Low taxes, strategic planning, efficient civil services and visionary policy leadership helped this Asian country navigate several early challenges to become a global giant. This short video from Bloomberg Originals helps you understand what worked and what did not work for this country and its people.
3. Learning from Books, Websites and Blog
In this Louisiana Channel video, Pakistani writer Mohsin Hamid sees fiction as a way to challenge and destabilize perceptions of reality. Through storytelling, Hamid believes, readers can explore the constructed nature of reality and challenge their own assumptions. Here is a quote from the episode
“We talk about reality as though it is real, but we are aware that we are creating it”.
4. Learning from Films, Videos and Shows
This is an interesting short documentary film about two of the fastest bowlers in world cricket, Brett Lee and Shoaib Akhtar. It includes several interviews with these two players and other batsman that faced them over time. It also shows you how fast bowling affected their bodies over time as it is a physically demanding task that requires a lot of effort and work.
5. Learning from Podcasts and Music
Naval Ravikant is an entrepreneur, investor and co-founder of AngelList. He talks about his personal philosophy on wealth, relationships and problem solving in this conversation with Chris Williamson on the Modern Wisdom podcast.
