#137 - Notes on Conversations, Cooking and Coldplay
Education Coffee is 2xWeekly Newsletter on People, Ideas and Culture.
In this newsletter, I share five inspiring web resources that I have curated after hours of research to ensure that you have the best education coffee in your inbox. In upcoming editions, I will focus on sharing insights, notes and realizations that I gather from people, ideas, books, films and podcasts.
1. Learning from People
In their Variety Actors on Actors conversation, Ellen Pompeo ('Grey's Anatomy') and Katherine Heigl ('Firefly Lane') chat about their life as television actors and the stories you remember along the way. I love this format because it is a candid conversation between two professionals about a specific role and how it affected their life over time. You can access 250+ videos from the archive in this Youtube playlist from the channel.
2. Learning from Ideas and Questions
Here is a talk by Rabia Kapoor on cooking, love and relationships from the Spoken Word Festival organised by Kommune India.
3. Learning from Books, Websites and Blog
A live discussion from the Jaipur Literature Festival 2025 archives about a conversation between Sudha Murthy (writer) and her daughter Akshata Murthy (investor), where the two women share insights into their lives, the choices they have made, and the paths they have taken.
4. Learning from Films, Videos and Shows
I saw ‘Faheem and Karun’ (2025) film at the Mumbai Premiere in March 2025. I got a chance to participate in a discussion with the actors and film maker after the screening. It was directed by Onir. Here are my thoughts on the film.
This is such a beautiful film about love between two people that find themselves in different stages of life. One is a student visiting his hometown in Kashmir. The other is a guard responsible for a road crossing in that town in Kashmir. They build a strong connection even though there should be tension between them because of their backgrounds. I loved the film because it shows you that we all have multiple identities that intersect in creative ways in the real world. We may be at conflict with someone in one identity and then may be really aligned in another identity. These differences and similarities can bring us together or tear us apart depending on how we perceive them and use it to relate to others in the world. It is shot really well and has some excellent music. It is a poignant film about family, politics and love.
5. Learning from Podcasts and Music
‘All My Love’ is taken from Coldplay's tenth studio album Moon Music. It is a beautiful song about love that has weathered the storms and the sunsets. I listen to this song when I am feeling low. The video always makes me smile. Here are my favourite lyrics from this song.
We've been through low
Been through sunshine, been through snow
All the colors of the weather
We've been through high
Every corner of the sky
And still we're holding on togetherYou got all my love
Whether it rains or pours, I'm all yours
